Baekhyun whimpered as he watched the rain softly land on the concrete in front of him, making the gray ground underneath him black.
For some reason, he had never been a fan of rain. Maybe it was because his parents had always said that rain were the angel’s tears from heaven or maybe he just didn’t like the fact that he was so forgetful and never checked the weather, muchless bring an umbrella with him.
Taking in a deep breath, the red haired boy pouted before pressing his back closer against the small, quiet trinket shop, hoping the manager wouldn’t shoo him away. Time ticked by and Baekhyun couldn’t help but to cringe his nose when he saw that twenty minutes had passed and the rain didn’t seem to show any signs of going away soon. Instead, Baekhyun could’ve sworn he heard the patters grow louder and louder. Deciding that it’d be better to just run home and get soaked than to stay under a shop he didn’t know how much he could stay under as the rain picked up, he sucked in a breath before mentally giving himself an encouragement.
Baekhyun quickly raised his arm to shield his eyes from the rain as he took off running, not feeling embarrassed about his situation since the streets were mostly empty anyway. A gasp escaped his lips when he suddenly stepped on a puddle he could’ve sworn wasn’t there just a few seconds ago, causing him to trip and fall face first into another puddle a few feet away. A puppy-like whimper followed the groan as he quickly got onto his knees, letting a few tears drop onto the floor when he saw his hands scratched up and his head throbbing.
As if mocking him, the rain immediately let up, or so Baekhyun thought. His eyes slowly made their way upwards, wondering where the rain had suddenly disappeared to, and yelped before falling backwards. There before him stood an incredibly tall and wide eyed male, hovering over him with a black umbrella in his hand.
“Woah there, didn’t mean to startle you,” The stranger laughed, letting out a cheeky grin. “I thought you could use some help when I saw you… you know.” he added, pointing up and down towards Baekhyun’s soaked outfit.
Baekhyun blushed as he realized he was now filthy and gasped when he saw the stranger extend a hand. Embarrassed by his scratched up hands, Baekhyun shook his head before slowly getting up himself.
“T-Thank you,” he whispered. He never was the most social and brightest bird in the nest.“No problem! Hey, I know you’re already soaked, but would you like me to accompany you home so you don’t get rain drops in your eyes and fall again?” Wide eyes asked.
Baekhyun debated on the offer and decided in the end, it wouldn’t hurt to save himself from such a hard fall. The stranger grinned a wide smile once again and quickly wrapped his arm around Baekhyun’s waist, pulling their bodies extremely close before walking towards the direction Baekhyun was heading before the fall.
“I’m Chanyeol, and you, damsel in distress?” Chanyeol asked.
Baekhyun let out a small laugh at the nickname before loosening his tense body. “B-Baekhyun.”
“Ah, that’s a nice name,” Chanyeol hummed. “I love the rain, don’t you?” he turned towards Baekhyun.
“No… not really.” Baekhyun bashfully answered, caught off guard when Chanyeol suddenly stopped in his tracks.
“What! Why!?” Chanyeol accidentally yelled, also caught off guard.
Baekhyun licked his lips before shrugging his shoulders. “My mother had always told me it was the angels crying from the horrible things humans do on earth… also because I forget my umbrella and end up falling flat on my face.”Rather than smiling, Chanyeol genuinely listened to Baekhyun’s story before nodding his head. The two awkwardly continued their journey towards Baekhyun’s house, the silence slowly starting to make Baekhyun’s feet antsy. It wasn’t until Baekhyun’s neighborhood showed up that Chanyeol spoke again.
“Ya know, my mother always told me rain was a gift from the angels. After rain comes beautiful flowers,” Chanyeol said, the smile that grew on Baekhyun appearing on the taller’s face again. “And without rain, I wouldn’t have seen you fall and I would’ve never met you.” He blushed.
Baekhyun blushed back and mentally groaned when they had already arrived at his house. Sensing that Baekhyun was home, Chanyeol awkwardly scratched the back of his head before suddenly grabbing Baekhyun’s hand and put the umbrella into the other’s palm.
“W-What’re you doing?” Baekhyun gasped when Chanyeol stepped underneath the umbrella and into the pouring rain.
“K-Keep it, just in case you forget yours in the future.” Chanyeol cutely smiled, the rain slowly causing his small fohawk to fall down.
“But what about you?” Baekhyun asked, feeling bad.
“Maybe you can save me from falling in the future,” Chanyeol waved goodbye before turning his body. “I hope I see you again one day. Goodbye, Baekhyun!” He shouted before taking off in the rain.
Baekhyun’s eyes remained wide as he watched Chanyeol’s body slowly disappear into the distance. A warm blush spread across his cheeks when he noticed a piece of paper in his palm as well, laughing when he saw Chanyeol’s phone number written on it, before looking up towards the gray sky. Maybe he’d like rain in the future as well.
